Free advice on problem debt based on what's best for you

DAY 2

Arrears on priority debts
What to do next
Find ways to increase your income or reduce your spending.
Contact your priority creditor to make the arrangement we’ve suggested.
Don’t be pressured into making a payment you can’t afford.
Use the ‘payment of arrears’ template letter in the resources section if you
prefer to tell them in writing. Don’t wait for your offer to be accepted. Pay any
offers you make straight away.
Contact your priority creditors to tell them of your situation and to discuss
your options. Your budget shows you cannot afford to pay your household bills
and your priority creditors may be able to help if you make them aware of your
problems.
Pay as much as you can afford to your usual household bills and if possible
also try to pay £1 towards the arrears until your situation improves.
Contact us straight away if any of your priority creditors take further action
against you. Don’t ignore letters threatening legal action, we can advise and
help you if you contact us as soon as you receive them.
Call us on 0300 303 5666 for further help and advice if you have difficulty
setting up or keeping up to date with any arrangements to clear the arrears on
your priority debts. We’re open Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm.
